Maria Bannister
Work Health and Safety Trainer - WA
I came to FSA with NSCA. I became a safety trainer after working in the industry as a consultant and auditor and realised that I could make a difference in the way people behaved and that I could influence their perception of risk.
What do you love most about your role?
This role is varied, I get to work with some great people who have great knowledge and understanding. I also get to train a wide variety of people across all states and industry groups. It keeps life very interesting.
What is the most challenging aspect of your role?
Trying to fit in all the things that I want to do. And of course endless hours of airports and travel.
What is your proudest career achievement?
Being invited to present at the American Industrial Hygienist Association Education conference in Montreal, which led me to being on their committee for continuing education for 3 years.
Do you have any safety tips for people?
LOOK & THINK. Just because you know what you are doing, doesn’t mean it’s safe. And NEVER STOP LEARNING!!
What do you wish you knew when you were younger?
Everything I know now.
In regard to safety – do what you can, change the things that you can change and accept the things that you cannot.
