FSA Entry Requirements:

  • Students must be 18 years or over and able to complete a "fitness to participate" declaration
  • Sufficient language, literacy and numeracy skills to complete the training programme
  • Students are required to wear safety footwear, long sleeve shirts and long pants or overalls (site appropriate clothing, steel-cap boots and PPE). Students may be refused entry where they attend without safety footwear.

Physical Requirements:

This course requires a moderate to high level of mobility, grip strength, and stamina, along with strong situational awareness when working with loads and plant in active worksites.

To successfully complete this course, you will need to be physically able to:

  • Walk, bend, and stoop during site inspections and pre-operational checks.
  • Climb into and out of the telehandler cab using three points of contact.
  • Lift and handle attachments, chains, and slings (up to approx. 10–15kg).
  • Sit and operate steering, pedals, and hydraulic controls for extended periods.
  • Travel forward/reverse with and without loads, including on inclines.
  • Use taglines to guide suspended loads safely.
  • Connect, test, use, clean, and store attachments such as forks, buckets, jibs, or work platforms.
  • Park, shut down, and secure the telehandler after operations.

Key overall physical demands:

 

  • Manual handling – attachments, slings, shackles (~10–15kg typical)
  • Mobility and stamina – walking, standing, bending, stooping, climbing into/out of cab
  • Upper body strength and grip – steering, hydraulic controls, connecting gear, handling taglines
  • Dexterity – under-bonnet checks, attachment pins, logbooks
  • Tolerance – PPE, prolonged sitting/operating, outdoor work environments
  • Situational awareness – safe travel paths, exclusion zones, working near hazards
