Prerequisites and Entry Requirements

Pre-Requisite Requirements:

FSA Entry Requirements:

  • USI that can be verified by Fire and Safety Australia
  • Sufficient fitness to participate in training
  • Sufficient language, literacy and numeracy skills to complete the course
  • Long sleeves and long pants and appropriate safety footwear
  • Meet the Eligibility Criteria, as listed below

This is a refresher course. To be eligible to enrol in this course, you must provide evidence that you have attained the following competencies:

  • RIIWHS202E Enter and work in confined spaces
  • MSMWHS217 Gas test atmospheres
    • Or equivalent units to the above as per training.gov.au

    Statements of Attainment will be requested prior to the day of your training course. If cards are provided, they must state the units of competence, date attained, identify the training provider that issued the card and include the NRT Logo

    Students who book for the course and arrive but do not meet the eligibility criteria (e.g., do not hold the correct units within the timeframe identified in the eligibility criteria) will have no recourse. These students will be refused entry to the classroom and will not be eligible for a refund.

    Physical Requirements:

    This refresher course requires a high level of mobility and stamina, though the practical components are shorter in duration than the full confined space entry courses.

    To successfully complete this course, you will need to be physically able to:

    • Wear confined space PPE
    • Enter and work in confined spaces, which requires crawling, bending, stooping, and kneeling.
    • Carry and operate gas detectors and small tools inside confined spaces.
    • Exit quickly in an emergency while wearing PPE/BA.
    • Clean and stow equipment after use.
    • Complete simple documentation such as permits and reports.

    Key overall physical demands:

    • Mobility and agility – crawling, stooping, kneeling, bending in confined/restricted areas
    • Manual handling – PPE, harnesses, gas detectors, small tools
    • Stamina and tolerance – heat, restricted ventilation, low visibility, noise
    • Emergency readiness – quick evacuation while encumbered by PPE/BA
    • Dexterity – operating detectors, adjusting PPE/BA, completing permits
    • Light admin work – reporting, permits, JSA
