Drive Vehicles under Operational Conditions Training

• Vehicle selection to meet operational requirements
• Preliminary and start-up vehicle checks
• Equipment and accessories checks
• Warning systems checks
• Suitable terrain operations
• Operate vehicles and/or trailers in accordance with organisational procedures
• Low risk driving techniques
• Controlled vehicle movements
• Travel route planning and monitoring
• Safe vehicle operations

On successful completion of this program, students will be awarded the following Nationally Recognised Units of Competency:

• PUAVEH001 Drive vehicles under operational conditions

Pre-requisites:

N/A

FSA Entry Requirements:

• USI and Fitness to Participate
• Students are required to hold a current unrestricted Class C drivers’ licence applicable for the vehicle being driven and meet the national vision standards requirements for the that states legislation, with or without corrective lenses
• Site appropriate safety clothing and footwear.
• Sufficient language, literacy and numeracy skills to complete the course

Physical Requirements:

This course requires a moderate level of mobility, grip strength, stamina, and concentration, with the ability to safely operate vehicles under both routine and simulated emergency driving conditions.

To successfully complete this course, you will need to be physically able to:

• Walk around and bend/stoop to complete vehicle pre-use checks.
• Handle small tools and check fluids, tyres, and safety equipment.
• Sit and operate steering, pedals, and vehicle controls for extended periods.
• Drive under normal and simulated urgent conditions while maintaining awareness of hazards.
• Communicate hazards during a commentary drive.
• Park and secure the vehicle according to organisational procedures.

Key overall physical demands:

• Mobility and stamina – walking around vehicle, stooping, bending, driving for extended periods
• Manual handling – fluid caps, hoods, doors, small tools, communication equipment
• Upper body strength and grip – steering, gear changes, operating controls
• Dexterity – adjusting mirrors, switches, radios, and recording documentation
• Tolerance – prolonged sitting/driving, simulated stress conditions
• Situational awareness – hazard recognition, commentary driving, safe urgent duty driving
