G189 Mine Supervisor (formerly S123) Training

The G189 Mine Supervisor Training, previously know as S123, is a nationally recognised course designed to equip mining supervisors with the essential skills and knowledge required to meet their obligations under Queensland's mining safety and health legislation.

As a student, you will gain the skills to:

• Communicate effectively within a mining environment
• Apply risk management processes in accordance with legislation and site requirements
• Conduct safety and health investigations following mining incidents or near misses

On successful completion of this program, participants will be awarded the following Nationally Recognised Units of Competency:

• RIIRIS301E Apply risk management processes
• RIIWHS301E Conduct safety and health investigations
• RIICOM301E Communicate information

Pre-requisites

N/A

FSA Entry Requirements:

• Must be over 18 years of age
• Must have access to a computer and have basic computer skills
• USI and sufficient language, literacy, digital and numeracy skills are required to complete the course
• Clothing and footwear appropriate to delivery site. This may include PPE

Physical Requirements:

This course requires a basic to moderate level of mobility and stamina, with a strong focus on communication, facilitation, and administrative tasks rather than heavy physical activity.

To successfully complete this course, you will need to be physically able to:

• Walk around and inspect work areas as part of workplace audits and hazard identification.
• Bend or stoop occasionally to observe hazards, equipment, or conditions.
• Stand and participate in group discussions, toolbox talks, and presentations.
• Use a two-way radio and complete simple workplace documentation.
• Write and present reports as part of risk management and incident investigation activities

Key overall physical demands:

• Light to moderate mobility – walking and standing during audits, inspections, and group facilitation
• Bending/stooping – occasionally when inspecting hazards or equipment
• Manual handling (minimal) – carrying documents, radios, or small equipment
• Stamina – standing/presenting in group settings, participating in extended discussions
• Communication skills – verbal clarity, listening, reporting, conflict resolution
