This program covers the skills and knowledge required to carry out risk management processes in the Resources and Infrastructure Industries.

NB: This program is an upgrade from RIIRIS301E Apply Risk Management Processes (S1) and evidence of this must be provided prior to training.

Course Content

The G2 Mine Supervisor Training is a nationally recognised course designed to develop the skills and knowledge required to carry out risk management processes as part of a mine supervisor's responsibilities under Queensland mining legislation

This course is a statutory requirement for individuals appointed to a supervisory position within a mine site and forms part of the recognised competencies for the role of Site Safety and Health Representatives or Site Senior Executive in Queensland's coal and metalliferous mining sectors.

Students will learn to:

  • Identify and assess site hazards
  • Apply risk control measures in accordance with mine safety legislation
  • Conduct formal risk assessments using recognised industry tools (eg. JSA, JSEA, WRAC)

This course aligns with the requirements of the Coal Mining Safety and Health Act 1999 (QLD) and the Mining and Quarrying Safety and Health Act 1999 (QLD), and is commonly required for supervisory and statutory position across the Queensland mining industry.

Learning Outcomes

On successful completion of this program, students will be awarded the following Nationally Recognised Units of Competency:

Prerequisites and Entry Requirements

Pre-Requisites

FSA Entry Requirements:

  • USI
  • Fitness to participate declaration
  • Sufficient language, literacy, numeracy and digital skills to complete the course
  • Evidence of holding RIIRIS301E Apply the risk management process

Physcial Requirements:

This course requires a basic to moderate level of mobility and stamina, with a strong focus on communication, facilitation, and cognitive tasks rather than heavy physical activity.

To successfully complete this course, you will need to be physically able to:

  • Walk around and inspect work areas as part of site audits and hazard identification.
  • Bend or stoop occasionally to observe hazards or equipment during inspections.
  • Stand and participate in group discussions, consultations, and presentations.
  • Complete written reports and risk assessments (paper-based or electronic).
  • Communicate clearly with team members, supervisors, and auditors.

Key overall physical demands:

  • Light to moderate mobility – walking and standing during site inspections and audits
  • Bending/stooping – when reviewing hazards and workplace conditions
  • Manual handling (minimal) – carrying documents, clipboards, laptops, or light equipment
  • Stamina – standing and presenting during group facilitation sessions
  • Communication and awareness – critical throughout risk assessment facilitation
