Prerequisites and Entry Requirements

Pre-Requisites:

N/A

FSA Entry Requirements:

  • Students are to complete the pre-course online learning and assessment; the ability to access FSA’s learner portal is required (eg: access to internet, smart phone, tablet or laptop).
  • Students must be 18 years at the time of assessment
  • Safety PPE and footwear eg steel-cap boots and long pants
  • Evidence of Identify (EOI) as outlined for each state / territory below
  • Sufficient English language, literacy and numeracy skills to complete the course, as assessments MUST be conducted in the English Language.
  • Students must be able to read and understand English. This is a requirement of the National Assessment Instrument. Google Translate or an Interpreter is not permitted.
  • USI that can be verified to ensure release of Statement of Attainment

Important information about training where Plant Machinery / Equipment is used

Manufacturer's specifications for the plant / machinery / equipment being utilised MUST be abided by, in particular the maximum person weight, eg. if the maximum personnel weight is 136kg, anyone above this weight CANNOT be permitted into the EWP Personnel bucket or platform.

Physical Requirements:

This high risk work licence course requires a moderate to high level of strength, grip, mobility, and stamina, and the ability to work confidently and safely at height under simulated emergency conditions.

To successfully complete this course, you will need to be physically able to:

  • Wear and adjust a full body harness and PPE.
  • Walk around the work area to inspect hazards and set up exclusion zones.
  • Bend, stoop, and handle harnesses, lanyards, outriggers, and stabilisers.
  • Climb safely into the EWP basket and secure your lanyard to anchor points.
  • Operate the EWP controls (raise, lower, slew, telescope) while standing in the basket.
  • Work safely at heights for extended periods with good balance and stamina.
  • Respond to simulated emergencies, including using ground/emergency lowering systems.
  • Clean, inspect, and stow harnesses and equipment after use.

Key overall physical demands:

  • Manual handling – harnesses, lanyards, outriggers, pig-sty packing, signage, and EWP controls
  • Upper body strength and grip – operating boom controls, handling lanyards, stabilisers, and rescue systems
  • Mobility and stamina – walking, climbing into basket, standing for extended periods, operating equipment outdoors
  • Balance and coordination – safe access/egress from basket, maintaining stability at height
  • Dexterity – inspecting PPE, tying off, operating controls, completing checklists/logbooks
  • Tolerance – heights, PPE, noisy/busy worksites, simulated fault/emergency scenarios
