This course is designed to refresh and enhance your knowledge and skills, enabling you to continue promoting and ensuring the health and safety of your work group.

Under section 72 of the NT WHS Act 2011, an employer, if requested, must allow an elected HSR to attend a HSR training course that is approved by the regulator (NT WorkSafe) and chosen by the HSR in consultation with their employer. Fire & Safety Australia is approved by NT WorkSafe to deliver the NT HSR Initial & Refresher Training Courses.

This course is ideal for:

  • Elected HSRs and Deputy HSRs
  • Those who completed the NT HSR Initial 5-day course
  • HSRs needing updated training
  • Individuals fulfilling WHS Act 2011 duties

ABOUT THE COURSE

This Northern Territory-specific course is designed to provide Health and Safety Representatives (HSRs) and Deputy HSRs with the knowledge and skills needed to effectively promote and ensure workplace health and safety. It covers the latest WHS legislation and practical applications to help HSRs fulfil their roles confidently.

Course Content

  • The WHS legislative framework and its relationship to the HSR.
  • Identifying key parties, legislative obligations and duties.
  • Understand the role, function and powers of a health and safety representative.
  • Undertaking the role of a health and safety representative within their work group including, participation in the resolution of work health and safety issues.
  • Issuing of Provisional Improvement Notices and directing cessation of unsafe work.

Learning Outcomes

On successful completion of the training you will receive a Certificate of Attendance

Prerequisites and Entry Requirements

Pre-requisites:

  • Evidence of Identity (EOI)
  • Must provide evidence of completing the NT HSR Initial 5 Day training course

  • Fitness to participate
  • Enclosed footwear
  • Sufficient language, literacy and numeracy skills to complete the course
