Operate a Light Vehicle Training

• Demonstrate knowledge of the requirements for planning a light vehicle journey
• Demonstrate knowledge and skills when operating a light vehicle
• Demonstrate the ability to complete minor maintenance on a light vehicle

On successful completion of this program, participants will be awarded the following Nationally Recognised Units of Competency:

• RIIVEH201E Operate a Light Vehicle

Pre-Requisites:

N/A

FSA Entry Requirements:

• USI
• Sufficient language, literacy and numeracy skills to complete the course
• Fitness to participate
• Free from the influence of drugs and alcohol
• Enclosed shoes and clothing appropriate to training site requirements
• Students are required to hold a current unrestricted Class C drivers’ licence, applicable for the vehicle being driven and meet the national vision standards requirements for the that states legislation, with or without corrective lenses

Physical Requirements:

This course requires a moderate level of mobility, stamina, and grip strength, along with safe driving awareness in a variety of conditions.

To successfully complete this course, you will need to be physically able to:

• Walk around and bend/stoop to complete pre-start inspections (fluids, tyres, lights, etc.).
• Secure external loads and equipment before travel.
• Sit and operate vehicle controls (steering, pedals, indicators) for extended periods.
• Drive safely on sealed and unsealed roads, adjusting to hazards such as fatigue, wildlife, and water crossings.
• Perform minor post-use maintenance such as cleaning and defect reporting

Key overall physical demands:

• Mobility and stamina – walking, standing, bending, stooping for inspections and load checks
• Manual handling – external loads, tools, covers, minor repairs
• Upper body strength and grip – steering, gear changes, operating pedals and controls
• Dexterity – map reading, equipment handling, paperwork
• Tolerance – sitting/driving for long periods, simulated operational conditions
• Situational awareness – hazard recognition, safe defensive driving, environmental considerations
