Prerequisites and Entry Requirements

Pre-requisites:

FSA Entry Requirements:

  • USI
  • Completion of Pre-course assessment is to be completed in the classroom under supervision of the AT BEFORE any training and / or assessment can be undertaken.
  • Sufficient language, literacy, digital and numeracy skills to complete the course. All assessments are in the English language. The use of an interpreter for the purpose of training and assessment is not permissible. This includes electronic Apps such as Google Translate.
  • Students must be 16 years or over
  • Safety PPE and enclosed footwear
  • All students are required to complete a fitness to participate declaration and entry requirements also include the need to adhere to weight restrictions of machinery being operated.

Physical Requirements:

This course requires a basic to moderate level of mobility, stamina, and grip strength, with the ability to work safely at height and operate EWPs under supervision.

To successfully complete this course, you will need to be physically able to:

  • Walk and bend to complete site inspections and EWP pre-start checks.
  • Wear PPE, and a harness if using a boom-type EWP.
  • Climb safely into and out of the EWP basket.
  • Stand and operate EWP controls (raise, lower, slew, telescope).
  • Use ground and emergency descent controls if required.
  • Handle light manual tasks such as barricades, signage, and tools.
  • Complete logbooks and defect reports after use.

Key overall physical demands:

  • Mobility and stamina – walking, standing, bending, stooping during checks, setup, and operation
  • Manual handling – barricades, signage, harnesses, outriggers, light tools
  • Upper body strength and grip – steering and operating EWP controls, handling harness gear
  • Dexterity – PPE fitting, control levers, logbooks, and emergency systems
  • Tolerance – standing for extended periods, PPE, outdoor environments, working at height
  • Awareness – maintaining safe distances, visibility, and team communication

Important information about the Operate EWP training:

Manufacturer's specifications for the EWP being utilised MUST be abided by, in particular the maximum person weight, eg. if the maximum person weight is 136kg, anyone above this weight CANNOT be permitted into the EWP Personnel bucket or platform.
