Perform EWP Rescue and Controlled Descent Escape Training

• Inspection and fitting of rescue equipment & PPE
• Assessing and controlling hazards to rescuer, victim and others
• Maintaining Safe Approach Distances (SAD’s)
• Identifying and inspecting EWP retrieval systems
• Involvement of external emergency services as appropriate
• Obtaining, inspecting, securing and attaching controlled descent equipment
• Evacuating the elevated work platform (EWP) and descending to the ground
• Practical demonstration of rescuing a person
• Removing victim / self to safe location / place of safety
• Emergency retrieval systems

On successful completion of this program, participants will be awarded the following Nationally Recognised Units of Competency:

• UETDRMP016 Perform EWP Rescue:
• UETDRMP015 Perform EWP Controlled Descent Escape

Pre-Requisites:

• HLTAID009 Provide Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation

Important information about training where Plant Machinery / Equipment is used
Manufacturer's specifications for the plant / machinery / equipment being utilised MUST be abided by, in particular the maximum person weight, eg. if the maximum personnel weight is 136kg, anyone above this weight CANNOT be permitted into the EWP Personnel bucket or platform.

• A verifiable USI
• Completion on Training Suitability Survey.
• Safety PPE and footwear
• Sufficient language, literacy, digital and numeracy skills to complete the course
• Entry requirements also include the need to adhere to weight restrictions of machinery being operated.
• All pre-requisite unit requirements are met, with evidence being provided to FSA for verification with issuing RTO. This evidence must be in the form on a Statement of Attainment or USI Transcript.

Physical Requirements:

This course requires a high level of mobility, grip strength, and stamina, and confidence working at height under simulated emergency conditions.

To successfully complete this course, you will need to be physically able to:

• Wear and adjust a full body harness and PPE.
• Use a Controlled Descent Device (CDD) to self-lower safely from an EWP.
• Bend, stoop, and handle lanyards, anchors, and rescue gear at height.
• Perform a simulated EWP rescue, which may involve moving a casualty mannequin (20–30kg).
• Perform CPR if required as part of the rescue.
• Work safely under simulated electrical hazard conditions.
• Clean, inspect, and store harnesses, CDDs, and rescue gear after training

Key overall physical demands

• High fitness and stamina – EWP rescue and descent scenarios require strength, coordination, and endurance
• Manual handling – harnesses, CDDs, rescue equipment, and casualties (20–30kg mannequins)
• Upper body strength and grip – rope handling, braking, attaching/detaching equipment
• Mobility and agility – working in and around EWP basket, leaning/stooping at height
• Tolerance – working at heights, PPE, simulated electrical hazard conditions, suspension drills
• Dexterity – operating rescue and descent devices safely under stress
