ABOUT THE COURSE

Our EWP Rescue Training Course equips you with the skills needed for emergency rescues and controlled descent escapes from an Elevated Work Platform (EWP). You will learn the following:

  • Inspecting and fitting rescue equipment and PPE
  • Assessing and controlling hazards
  • Maintaining Safe Approach Distances (SADs)
  • Identifying and inspecting retrieval systems
  • Coordinating with emergency services

Course Content

  • Inspection and fitting of rescue equipment & PPE
  • Assessing and controlling hazards to rescuer, victim and others
  • Maintaining Safe Approach Distances (SAD’s)
  • Identifying and inspecting EWP retrieval systems
  • Involvement of external emergency services as appropriate
  • Obtaining, inspecting, securing and attaching controlled descent equipment
  • Evacuating the elevated work platform (EWP) and descending to the ground
  • Practical demonstration of rescuing a person
  • Removing victim / self to safe location / place of safety
  • Emergency retrieval systems

Learning Outcomes

On successful completion of this program, participants will be awarded the following Nationally Recognised Units of Competency:

  • UETDRMP005 Perform EWP Rescue
  • UETDRMP004 Perform EWP Controlled Descent Escape

Prerequisites and Entry Requirements

Pre-Requisites:

To be awarded the current Units of Competency (below), you are required to provide evidence of the listed pre-requisites prior to the course commencement:
UETDRMP004 Perform EWP controlled descent escape
UEECD0007 Apply work health and safety regulations, codes and practices in the workplace
OR
TLILIC0005 Licence to operate a boom-type elevating work platform (Boom length 11m or more)
UETDRMP0005 Perform elevated work platform rescue
HLTAID009 Provide Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation
AND
UEECD0007 Apply work health and safety regulations, codes and practices in the workplace
OR
TLILIC0005 Licence to operate a boom-type elevating work platform (Boom length 11m or more)
OR
UETDREL006 Work safely in the vicinity of live electrical apparatus as a non-electrical worker

FSA Entry Requirements:

  • A verifiable USI
  • Fitness to participate declaration. Entry requirements also include the need to adhere to weight restrictions of machinery being operated.
  • Safety PPE and footwear
  • Sufficient language, literacy and numeracy skills to complete the course
  • All pre-requisite unit requirements are met, with evidence being provided to FSA for verification with issuing RTO. This evidence must be in the form on a Statement of Attainment or USI Transcript.
  • Ideally, Participants to have previously completed an Elevated Work Platform training programme.

Important information about training where Plant Machinery / Equipment is used
Manufacturer's specifications for the plant / machinery / equipment being utilised MUST be abided by, in particular the maximum person weight, eg. if the maximum personnel weight is 136kg, anyone above this weight CANNOT be permitted into the EWP Personnel bucket or platform.

Please note: Participants are responsible for submitting their application for a High Risk Work Licence to their relevant state or territory regulator.
