This course covers the organisational workplace requirements for the inspection and use of pole top rescue equipment, and how it applies to ESI workers to meet work health and safety (WHS)/occupational health and safety (OHS), mobility and mutual aid requirements.

It also includes a self-paced on-line module for the Pre-requisite Unit of Competency: UETDREL006 Work safely in the vicinity of live electrical apparatus as a non-electrical worker (completed as pre-course ONLINE learning and assessment).

The application of the skills and knowledge developed in this course may require a licence/registration to practice in the workplace subject to regulations for undertaking of electrical work.

Course Content

Emergency procedures for the skills required for Pole Top Rescue of a victim encompassing:

  • Selection and inspection of rescue equipment and PPE
  • Controlling hazards to rescuer, victim and others
  • Maintaining Safe Approach Distances (SADs)
  • Practical demonstration of rescuing a person
  • Removing victim / self to safe location / place of safety

Learning Outcomes

On successful completion of this program, participants will be awarded the following Nationally Recognised Units of Competency:

  • UETDREL006 Work safely in the vicinity of live electrical apparatus as a non-electrical worker
  • UETDRMP006 Perform pole top rescue

Prerequisites and Entry Requirements

Pre-Requisites:

To be awarded the (current) Unit of Competency: UETDRMP006 Perform Pole Top Rescue, the below pre-requisites must be provided:

  • HLTAID009 Provide Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation: AND
  • UEECD0007 Apply work health and safety regulations, codes and practices in the workplace
  • UETDREL005 Work safely in the vicinity of live electrical apparatus
    OR
    UETDREL006 Work safely in the vicinity of live electrical apparatus as a non-electrical worker (included in this course, completed as pre-course ONLINE learning and assessment).

Where the pre-requisite evidence, in the form of a Statement or Attainment or USI Transcript, is not provided, FSA will issue a Certificate of Attendance.

FSA Entry Requirements:

  • A verifiable USI
  • Fitness level to participate
  • Enclosed footwear
  • Sufficient digital, language, literacy and numeracy skills to complete the course
  • Provision of evidence meeting the unit of competency pre requisites, as listed above.
