On successful completion of this program, students will be awarded the following Nationally Recognised Units of Competency:

• PUASAR022 Participate in a rescue operation
• ICTTCR203 Use safe rigging practices to climb and perform rescues on telecommunications network structures
• UETDRMP020 Perform tower rescue

Pre-requisites:

• HLTAID009 Provide Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation

This course is delivered as non-Fire Sector.

Note: where PUASAR022 Participate in a rescue operation is delivered as part of a fire sector qualification, additional pre-requisites apply as per the unit outline listed on training.gov.au.

Where the pre-requisite evidence, in the form of a Statement or Attainment or USI Transcript, is not provided, FSA will issue a Certificate of Attendance.

FSA Entry Requirements:

• Current First Aid qualification (in addition to the pre-requisite requirement of HLTAID009 Provide cardiopulmonary resuscitation).
• Previous nationally recognised training in heights rescue e.g: Rope/Vertical rescue
• A sufficient level of fitness to complete the course
• Appropriate safety footwear and PPE Clothing
• PPE Clothing appropriate to site requirements
• USI that can be verified to ensure release of Statement of Attainment
• Sufficient language, literacy and numeracy skills to complete the course.
• Evidence of each student holding the required pre-requisite and/or entry competency/s must be provided prior to entry into the course.

Where the student fails to provide the entry / pre-requisite evidence, a Statement of Attainment will not be awarded for that Unit of Competency.

Physical Requirements:

This course requires a very high level of physical strength, stamina, and agility, and confidence working at heights under simulated tower rescue conditions.

To successfully complete this course, you will need to be physically able to:

• Wear full PPE and a harness suitable for tower climbing.
• Climb and work safely on towers using twin-tail lanyards, pole straps, or vertical lifeline systems.
• Handle and set up ropes, knots, anchors, pulleys, and rescue kits.
• Perform a pick-off rescue of a suspended casualty at height.
• Package and raise/lower a casualty in a stretcher using rope hauling systems.
• Bend, stoop, and kneel during casualty packaging and equipment setup.
• Lift, drag, or carry a casualty mannequin (20–30kg).
• Clean, coil, and store ropes and equipment after training.

Key overall physical demands:

• Very high physical fitness and stamina – climbing towers, rigging rope systems, casualty handling
• Manual handling – rescue equipment, ropes, harnesses, stretchers, and casualties (~20–30kg mannequins)
• Upper body strength and grip – rope control, knot tying, hauling, stretcher handling
• Mobility and agility – climbing, stooping, bending, kneeling at height and on structures
• Tolerance – heights, PPE, exposure, restricted mobility, and simulated emergency stress
• Dexterity – knot tying, rigging, connecting rescue systems under stress
• Team coordination – stretcher rescue, hauling, and rope system management
