Prerequisites and Entry Requirements

Pre-requisites:

N/A

FSA Entry Requirements:

  • Current Provide First Aid Statement of Attainment or unit HLTAID011 listed on USI Transcript
  • Verifiable USI number
  • The ability to perform CPR on the floor (this is an assessment condition)
  • Enclosed footwear
  • Sufficient language, literacy, digital, and numeracy skills to complete the course

Physical Requirements:

This course requires a moderate to high level of physical strength, stamina, and mobility, particularly for CPR, choking response, and casualty management under simulated emergency conditions.

To successfully complete this course, you will need to be physically able to:

  • Kneel on the floor to perform CPR on adult, child, and infant manikins for at least 2 minutes.
  • Use an AED safely during CPR scenarios.
  • Bend, stoop, and roll a casualty into the recovery position.
  • Perform back blows and chest thrusts to manage a simulated choking casualty.
  • Use an EpiPen trainer, asthma inhaler, and spacer in first aid scenarios.
  • Apply pressure, bandages, and slings to control bleeding, sprains, strains, and fractures.
  • Respond to a range of simulated incidents including burns, shock, heat/cold, bites/stings, and poisoning.
  • Complete casualty report forms and participate in verbal debriefs

Key overall physical demands:

  • Upper body strength and stamina – CPR compressions, choking response, casualty handling
  • Mobility and agility – kneeling, bending, stooping, rolling casualties, recovery position
  • Manual handling – supporting/managing casualty limbs, moving mannequins (20–30kg typical)
  • Dexterity – AED use, EpiPen trainer, inhalers, bandages, slings, dressings
  • Tolerance – kneeling for CPR, PPE, simulated stressful scenarios
  • Communication – verbal casualty handover, written reports, teamwork
