On successful completion of this program, students will be awarded the following Nationally Recognised Units of Competency:

• HLTAID009 Provide cardiopulmonary resuscitation
• HLTAID013 Provide first aid in remote or isolated site

FSA Entry Requirements:

• Current Provide First Aid certificate with HLTAID011 Provide First Aid as minimum
• USI and fitness to participate
• The ability to perform CPR on the floor (this is an assessment condition)
• Enclosed footwear
• Sufficient language, literacy and numeracy skills to complete the course

Physical Requirements:

This course requires a high level of physical strength, stamina, and mobility, particularly for casualty movement, CPR, and extended care in remote or isolated environments.

To successfully complete this course, you will need to be physically able to:

• Kneel on the floor to perform CPR on adult, child, and infant manikins for at least 2 minutes.
• Use an AED, EpiPen trainer, asthma inhaler, and spacer device.
• Bend, stoop, and roll casualties into the recovery position.
• Apply pressure, dressings, and tourniquets to control severe bleeding.
• Assist with spinal immobilisation and safe patient movement.
• Lift, drag, or carry casualty mannequins (20–30kg) and use stretchers/spinal boards.
• Provide first aid in simulated environmental conditions (heat, cold, rain, remote settings).
• Participate in triage and multiple casualty management scenarios.
• Complete casualty reports and communicate with emergency services.

Key overall physical demands:

• High strength and stamina – CPR, bleeding control, casualty movement, extended care
• Manual handling – mannequins (20–30kg), stretchers, immobilisation gear, shelters, evacuation prep
• Mobility and agility – kneeling, bending, stooping, rolling casualties, carrying equipment
• Upper body strength and grip – CPR compressions, bandaging, stretcher handling
• Dexterity – AED, EpiPen trainer, inhaler, thermometers, wound dressings
• Tolerance – kneeling for CPR, PPE, outdoor simulated conditions (heat/cold, remote settings)
• Situational awareness – triage, evacuation planning, patient monitoring over extended care
