On successful completion of this program, participants will be awarded the following Nationally Recognised Units of Competency:

• PUAEME008 Provide pain management

Pre-requisites:

HLTAID011 Provide First Aid is a mandatory pre-requisite, evidence of holding this unit must be provided prior to the course

FSA Entry Requirements:

• USI
• Fitness to participate
• Site appropriate clothing and safety footwear.
• Sufficient language, literacy and numeracy skills to complete the course

Physical Requirements:

This course requires a moderate to high level of physical strength, stamina, and mobility, particularly for CPR, choking response, and casualty management under simulated emergency conditions.

To successfully complete this course, participants must be physically able to:

• Perform a primary and secondary casualty assessment (including DRSABCD) in a simulated emergency setting
• Kneel, crouch, or bend beside a casualty on the floor for extended periods
• Administer medications safely, requiring fine motor control and manual dexterity
• Apply and remove PPE such as gloves, masks, and eyewear while maintaining hygiene and infection control
• Monitor and record patient vital signs (e.g., pulse, breathing rate, blood pressure, temperature)
• Handle and dispose of medical materials appropriately in accordance with procedures
• Communicate clearly and calmly with casualties, team members, and medical authorities during simulated scenarios
• Complete written documentation such as patient care records and medication logs accurately under simulated pressure

Key overall physical demands:

• Ability to move freely, kneel, crouch, bend, and reach when attending to casualties
• Manual dexterity for handling small equipment (e.g., inhalers, medication vials, instruments)
• Visual acuity to read medication labels, observation charts, and complete written forms
• Mobility and stamina to participate in simulated emergency responses
• Verbal communication skills to provide patient handovers and participate in team debriefings
