Pre-requisites:

PUAFIR203 Respond to urban fire (or equivalent)

FSA Entry Requirements:

• USI
• Fitness to participate declaration – this is a physically demanding training course
• Sufficient language, literacy & numeracy skills to complete the course
• Safety footwear and PPE clothing appropriate to site requirements
• Sufficient digital, language, literacy and numeracy skills to complete the course
• Evidence of each student holding the pre-requisite (PUAFIR203) must be provided prior to entry into the course

Physical Requirements:

This course requires a very high level of physical strength, stamina, mobility, and grip, with the ability to operate safely in full PPE/SCBA under simulated aviation emergency conditions.

To successfully complete this course, you will need to be physically able to:

• Wear full firefighting PPE and SCBA for extended periods.
• Handle and operate hoses, nozzles, ladders, extinguishers, TICs, and forcible entry tools.
• Walk, crawl, kneel, and stoop in confined, smoky, or low-visibility environments.
• Apply firefighting foam to control simulated fuel, engine, and wheel fires.
• Enter aircraft mock-ups and perform casualty rescues, including lifting/dragging mannequins (20–30kg).
• Use radios and participate in SMEAC briefings and team communications.
• Clean, maintain, and stow firefighting and rescue equipment after use.
• Complete incident reports and participate in operational debriefs

Key overall physical demands:

• Very high stamina and endurance – sustained SCBA work in hot/smoky environments
• Manual handling – hoses, SCBA sets, cylinders (~10–15kg), casualty mannequins (~20–30kg), ladders, tools
• Upper body strength and grip – hose/nozzle control, casualty handling, forcible entry tools
• Mobility and agility – crawling, stooping, kneeling, climbing into fuselage sections
• Dexterity – operating SCBA, radios, TIC, valves, extinguishers
• Tolerance – PPE/SCBA, heat, noise, smoke, stress, confined environments
• Communication – radio use, SMEAC briefs, teamwork under pressure
