Prerequisites and Entry Requirements

Pre-requisites:

Unit 1.6 must be completed prior to Unit 2.8

FSA Entry Requirements:

  • Unique Student Identifier (USI) – www.usi.gov.au
  • Fitness to participate
  • Language, literacy and numeracy skills to complete the course

Physical Requirements:

This course requires a moderate level of stamina, strength, grip, and mobility, with the ability to respond to simulated fire emergencies in a safe and controlled manner.

To successfully complete this course, you will need to be physically able to:

  • Sit for classroom sessions and complete a short written assessment.
  • Walk, stand, and move quickly during fire emergency drills.
  • Lift and operate a fire extinguisher (5–9kg) using the P.A.S.S. method.
  • Handle and operate a fire hose under water pressure, including advancing and retreating safely.
  • Don the required site-specific PPE during activities.
  • Evacuate to the muster point along a safe route and participate in roll call.
  • Contribute to a debrief and complete a short report after the exercise.

Key overall physical demands:

  • Mobility and stamina – walking, standing, bending during fire response and evacuation
  • Manual handling – fire extinguisher (5–9kg), hose lines under pressure
  • Strength and grip – hose/nozzle control, extinguisher operation
  • Dexterity – handling equipment safely, donning PPE, writing reports
  • Tolerance – working in simulated emergency situations with urgency, noise, and stress
