Prerequisites and Entry Requirements

FSA Entry Requirements:

  • USI
  • Fitness to participate
  • Enclosed footwear
  • Clothing appropriate to site requirements
  • Sufficient language, literacy and numeracy skills to complete the course

Physical Requirements:

This course requires basic to moderate level of mobility, strength and stamina, and the ability to work safely while wearing PPE and handling hazardous substances.

To successfully complete this course, you will need to be physically able to:

  • Lift and handle containers of hazardous substances (up to approx. 20kg, with safe manual handling techniques)
  • Bend, stoop and reach when checking labels, containers and storage areas
  • Wear Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) such as gloves, safety glasses and respirators when required
  • Respond safely to simulated spills, including deploying absorbent materials and cleaning up
  • Walk through workplaces and storage areas to conduct inspections and hazard checks
  • Complete forms and documentation such as hazard identification, risk assessments and transport records

Key overall physical demands:

  • Manual handling of DG/HS containers (up to 20kg, with team lifting if heavier)
  • Mobility to walk, bend, stoop, and reach when inspecting and handling substances
  • Use of PPE – gloves, goggles, masks/respirators, protective clothing as required
  • Spill response work – kneeling, bending, lifting, carrying absorbent materials, working in confined or contaminated areas
  • Clear communication in briefings and toolbox talks
  • Light administrative work – hazard forms, risk assessments, permits, documentation
