Prerequisites and Entry Requirements

FSA Entry Requirements:

  • USI
  • Fitness to participate
  • Enclosed footwear, long pants, long sleeves
  • Sufficient Language, literacy and numeracy skills to complete the course

Physical Requirements:

This course requires a basic to moderate level of mobility and strength, with the ability to act safely and calmly during a simulated fire emergency.

To successfully complete this course, you will need to be physically able to:

  • Lift and operate fire extinguishers (up to approx. 9kg)
  • Use a fire blanket safely, which may involve crouching or stooping
  • Wear site-specific protective equipment (PPE)
  • Move quickly and safely to raise the alarm, evacuate others, and approach a fire from a safe direction
  • Stand and communicate clearly while directing others during evacuations
  • Complete simple reporting and debrief activities after the incident

Key overall physical demands:

  • Manual handling of fire extinguishers (~9kg) and fire blankets
  • Mobility to move quickly, guide evacuations, and approach fire safely
  • Stooping/crouching when using fire blankets
  • Standing and walking during alarms, evacuations, and response
  • Clear verbal communication under emergency conditions
  • Light administrative work (reports, debrief)
