Course Content

  • Safely perform work at heights using fall prevention and restraint systems
  • Implement emergency and rescue procedures in accordance with site requirements

  • Work effectively as part of a team to ensure compliance with workplace safety standards

Prerequisites and Entry Requirements

FSA Entry Requirements:

Students must provide evidence of holding the below unit of competency, this is required to be provided PRIOR to commencement of the course:

  • Evidence of holding RIIWHS204E Work Safely at Heights (or equivalent) issued within the last 2 years.
  • Completion of pre-course learning - Work at Heights Learner Handbook.
  • A verifiable USI
  • Students are required to wear safety footwear, long sleeve shirts and long pants or overalls (site appropriate clothing, steel-cap boots and PPE). Participants may be refused entry where they attend without safety footwear.
  • Suitable fitness to participate (see below for details)
  • Sufficient language, literacy, digital and numeracy skills to complete the course

Physical Requirements:

This refresher requires a moderate to high level of mobility and stamina, though the practical components are shorter than the full Work Safely at Heights course.

To successfully complete this course, you will need to be physically able to:

  • Wear and adjust a full body harness and height safety equipment.
  • Tolerate a short suspension in a harness during drills.
  • Bend, stoop, and handle slings, anchors, and lanyards.
  • Use twin-tail lanyards, pole straps, and lifeline devices while moving at height.
  • Assist with group setup of temporary lifelines and basic rescue equipment.
  • Clean and store harnesses, lanyards, and fall protection equipment after training.

  • Mobility and stamina – bending, stooping, and climbing while connected to height safety systems
  • Manual handling – ropes, lanyards, anchors, and fall arrest devices
  • Upper body strength and grip – adjusting, connecting, and using height safety gear
  • Tolerance – short suspension drills in harness with restricted movement
  • Dexterity – fitting harnesses, tying knots, and managing connectors
  • Teamwork – group setup of lifelines and rescue kit handling
