An accredited specialised program for the healthcare industry designed to equip anyone who needs to undertake Fire Safety Training in Healthcare Facilities. This course is designed to meet the criteria and requirements set out in the NSW Health’s Policy Directive for Fire Safety in Healthcare Facilities (PD2010_024), associated Australian Standards AS3745 & AS4083, as well as the WHS Act 2011 and WHS Regulations 2017.

The program is set out over one day and will provide the candidates with the skills to assume the role, when required, of an Emergency Coordinator (Chief Warden) as well as Emergency Officers (Wardens).

This course is the pathway for anyone wishing to undertake the role of a Fire Safety Officer (FSO), with the candidate requiring to undertake a further one day of additional learnings to fulfill all national units of competency required for a Fire Safety Officer (Healthcare Facilities) (FSO) meeting the needs as outlined in the NSW Health Policy Directive (PD2010_024); Fire and Safety Australia has the capabilities to assist with this further upskilling (see Fire Safety Officer (Healthcare Facilities) Training course outline).

Pre-Requisites:

  • N/A

FSA Entry Requirements:

  • USI that can be verified
  • Fitness to participate
  • Sufficient language, literacy and numeracy skills to complete the course
  • Enclosed shoes, long pants, long sleeves (required when using fire extinguishers)

Course Subjects:

  • Understand the role & responsibilities of the Fire Safety Officer
  • Planning for various emergencies in a facility, eg. bomb threats, fire, civil disturbances
  • Preventative safeguards to assist staff
  • Familiarisation with detection and suppression systems
  • Practical fire extinguisher training
