Commonwealth Health and Safety Representatives (HSR) Refresher training course will revitalise participates knowledge and skills of Work Health and Safety legislation and provide a refreshed knowledge of their role and functions as HSR’s.

Designed For

Specifically intended for Commonwealth trained Health and Safety Representatives who have completed the 5 day Commonwealth HSR course after 31st of December 2011. Note: section 72 of the WHS Act 2011 entitles a Health and Safety Representative (HSR) after completing an initial course of training to attend a refresher course of training in work health and safety for each year they hold office. The HSR in consultation with their employer also has the right to choose the course of training they attend. Students are required to bring with them to the course their workplace’s Risk Management Process/Tool.

Pre-Requisites:

  • Evidence of Identify

  • Must provide evidence of completing the Comcare Initial 5 day course after 30 Dec 2011

  • Sufficient language, literacy and numeracy skills to complete the course

Course Content:

The course content covers updates and revision of:

  • WHS Act 2011 legislative framework
  • Duties and responsibilities of PC8U5, officers, workers and other parties under the legislation
  • The nature of the consultation process with workers as required of the primary PCBU by the Act
  • The purpose and formation of a workgroup within the workplace
  • Health & Safety Committees (HSCs)
  • The entitlements, rights and protections of an elected HSR / Deputy HSR
  • Using negotiation, communication and problem solving skills and strategies as a HSR to represent a workgroup and to resolve WHS issues
  • Risk management and the use of risk controls, including the duties and responsibilities of various PCBUs under the legislation
  • Now HSR, can contribute to risk management in the workplace
  • Provisional Improvement Notices (PIN) and the right to cease, or direct the cessation of unsafe work
    This course is delivered by NSCA.
