December 11, 2024 by Steve McLeod

At Fire and Safety Australia (FSA), we are constantly working to raise the standard of emergency response services for our clients. Our latest step in advancing emergency capabilities is the delivery of our first of two brand-new Scania Urban Tanker 4×4 Fire Appliances. Built in Perth, these state-of-the-art fire appliances are designed to enhance firefighting capabilities on mining and oil & gas sites. As a testament to FSA’s commitment to safety and excellence, we proudly showcased the new fire appliance at the WA Mines Emergency Response Competition (WAMERC), where FSA was a gold sponsor.

Enhanced Firefighting Capacity for Emergency Response Teams
The FSA Scania 380HP 4WD Urban Tanker Fire Appliance has been built with industry-leading features to ensure optimal firefighting performance, especially in the challenging environments found in the oil and gas sector. This includes a powerful 380HP engine that can accelerate from 0 to 80 km/h in under 25 seconds, allowing for rapid response to emergency situations.

Key Features of the FSA Scania Urban Tanker Fire Appliance:

High-Flow Roof Monitor: The appliance is equipped with a 2000Lpm TFT Tornado roof monitor that can be controlled from inside the cabin. This allows for immediate fire suppression from a safe distance, before deploying crew members into high-risk environments.
Water and Foam Capacity: With a 3000L water tank and a 200L B-class foam tank, the fire appliance is capable of delivering large volumes of firefighting agents, essential for dealing with the large fires often encountered in the oil and gas industry.
Pump and Roll Capability: The Waterous CLVT Engine-driven pump, rated at 2000LPM @ 1000Kpa, allows for both stationary and pump-and-roll operations, enabling efficient firefighting from multiple positions.
Enhanced Crew Safety: The vehicle is designed to accommodate five crew members, with dedicated lockers for extrication tools, technical rescue equipment, first aid, and hazmat supplies. The appliance also features Vehicle Rollover Protection (ROPS), SCBA storage in the rear cabin seats, and a quickstow ladder gantry to ensure crew members are always prepared for action.

Meeting Safer Together Standards and Industry Demands
These new fire appliances meet the stringent Safer Together standards for the oil and gas industry, ensuring that our clients’ emergency response teams are equipped with the best possible resources. This upgrade will significantly improve firefighting capabilities and enhance crew safety, offering unmatched support in high-pressure situations, such as hydrocarbon fires or gas leaks. The integration of large-volume water delivery and foam application will also aid in asset protection, especially when isolating gas supplies and valves during an emergency.

Supporting Our Emergency Services Teams
Our new Scania Fire Appliances are an investment not only in better firefighting but also in the safety of our Emergency Services Officers (ESOs). These appliances are designed to provide quick, efficient responses, with features that improve the speed and safety of our teams, from SCBA-equipped crew seating to ergonomic lockers that reduce injury risks during operation. With these upgrades, our teams will be ready to respond faster and more effectively to incidents on-site.

FSA’s National Commitment to Emergency Response Excellence
FSA is proud to continue pushing the boundaries of emergency response readiness with these new appliances. These state-of-the-art vehicles will be deployed to some of our largest emergency response contracts in the oil and gas industry in Queensland. We aim to raise the bar for safety, preparedness, and firefighting capability across the board.
