ABOUT THE COURSE

The LVR module of this course covers the necessary procedures for rescuing an individual from a live LV apparatus (excluding overhead lines and underground cables). The module specifies the mandatory requirements for rescue from a live LV panel and how these apply in the context of transmission, distribution, or rail work functions. The course also encompasses responsibilities for health, safety and risk management processes at all levels of operation, including adherence to safety practices as a standard part of work. .

  • How to assess the incident scene for hazards
  • Proper placement and inspection of rescue equipment
  • Techniques to control risks for rescuers, victims, and bystanders
  • Safe isolation procedures for live electrical panels
  • Maintaining Safe Approach Distances (SADs)
  • Practical CPR and rescue demonstrations

Course Content

Emergency procedures for the skills required to rescue a victim from a live LV panel encompassing:

  • Assess the incident scene
  • Conduct D-R-S-A-B-C-D
  • CPR techniques
  • Placement and inspection of rescue equipment
  • Assessing and controlling hazards to rescuer, victim and others
  • Isolation procedures where appropriate
  • Understand electrical dangers and PPE
  • Maintaining Safe Approach Distances (SAD’s) appropriate to rescue from a live LV panel
  • Involvement of external emergency services as appropriate
  • Practical demonstration of rescuing a person
  • Removing victim / self to safe location / place of safety

Learning Outcomes

On successful completion of this program, participants will be awarded the following Nationally Recognised Units of Competency:

  • UEECD0007 Apply work health and safety regulations, codes and practices in the workplace
  • UETDRMP007 Perform rescue from a live Low Voltage panel
  • HLTAID009 Provide Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation

Prerequisites and Entry Requirements

Pre-Requisites:

To be awarded the (current) Unit of Competency: UETDRMP007 Perform rescue from a live Low Voltage panel, the below pre-requisites must be provided (both are completed as part of this course)

  • UEECD0007 Apply work health and safety regulations, codes and practices in the workplace

AND

  • HLTAID009 Provide cardiopulmonary resuscitation

 
Where the pre-requisite evidence, in the form of a Statement or Attainment or USI Transcript is not provided, FSA will issue a Certificate of Attendance.

FSA Entry Requirements:

  • A verifiable USI
  • Enclosed footwear
  • Sufficient digital, language, literacy and numeracy skills to complete the course
  • Ability to perform CPR on the floor (this is an assessment condition)
  • Provision of evidence meeting the unit of competency pre-requisites, as listed above.
