Prerequisites and Entry Requirements

Pre-Requisites:

N/A

FSA Entry Requirements:

  • USI
  • Fitness to Participate, students must be physically capable of wearing a harness and climbing a ladder safely, maintaining 3 points of contact.
  • Long sleeves and long pants/appropriate safety footwear.
  • Sufficient language, literacy and numeracy skills to complete the course

Physical Requirements:

This course requires a high level of mobility, stamina, and upper body strength, with the ability to remain safe and effective while working at height.

To successfully complete this course, you will need to be physically able to:

  • Wear and adjust a full body harness and fall protection equipment.
  • Tolerate short suspension in a harness during drills.
  • Bend, stoop, and handle slings, anchors, and lanyards.
  • Use twin-tail lanyards, pole straps, and lifeline systems while moving at height.
  • Perform work positioning tasks requiring balance and stamina.
  • Assist with setup and use of fall arrest and horizontal lifeline systems.
  • Handle and store ropes, lanyards, and rescue kits after training

Key overall physical demands

  • High physical demand during suspension, fall arrest, and work positioning drills
  • Manual handling – harnesses, lanyards, anchors, horizontal lifelines, rescue kits
  • Upper body strength and grip – rope handling, adjusting systems, lifting gear
  • Mobility and agility – stooping, bending, climbing, and working at height
  • Stamina and tolerance – suspended work, restricted movement, simulated rescue stress
  • Teamwork and communication – coordinating group lifeline/rescue kit setups
