Prerequisites and Entry Requirements

Pre-requisites:

N/A

FSA Entry Requirements:

  • USI
  • Fitness to participate
  • Ability to perform CPR on the floor (this is an assessment condition)
  • Enclosed footwear
  • Sufficient language, literacy and numeracy skills to complete the course

Physical Requirements:

This course requires a high level of strength, stamina, and mobility, as well as the ability to manage multiple simulated casualties under stress.

To successfully complete this course, you will need to be physically able to:

  • Kneel on the floor to perform CPR on adult, child, and infant manikins for at least 2 minutes.
  • Operate an Automated External Defibrillator (AED).
  • Roll and position casualties into the recovery position.
  • Apply first aid for scenarios including anaphylaxis, asthma, choking, severe bleeding, fractures, shock, and envenomation.
  • Use equipment such as EpiPens, inhalers, slings, splints, and tourniquets.
  • Lift, drag, or move casualty mannequins (20–30kg) safely using manual handling techniques.
  • Respond to a multiple casualty incident, including triage and use of extraction devices.
  • Complete written casualty report forms and communicate with emergency services.

Key overall physical demands:

  • High strength and stamina – CPR, casualty handling, multiple casualty scenarios
  • Manual handling – lifting, dragging, moving casualties (20–30kg mannequins), applying tourniquets, slings, and splints
  • Mobility and agility – kneeling, bending, stooping, rolling casualties
  • Upper body strength and grip – chest compressions, bandaging, equipment handling
  • Dexterity – operating AED, inhalers, spacers, tourniquets, haemostatic dressings
  • Tolerance – kneeling for CPR, PPE, working in simulated stressful environments
  • Teamwork and communication – during triage, reporting, and debrief
