Learning Outcomes

Prerequisites and Entry Requirements

Pre-requisites:

HLTAID015 Provide advanced resuscitation has the pre-requisite of HLTAID011 Provide first aid which is delivered and assessed as part of this course

FSA Entry Requirements:

  • USI
  • high level of Fitness to participate
  • The ability to perform CPR on the floor (this is an assessment condition)
  • Sufficient language, literacy and numeracy skills to complete the course
  • Enclosed footwear

Physical Requirements:

This course requires a very high level of physical strength, stamina, dexterity, and mobility, as well as the ability to manage extended casualty care and workplace first aid systems.

To successfully complete this course, you will need to be physically able to:

  • Kneel on the floor to perform CPR on adult, child, and infant manikins for at least 2 minutes.
  • Use an AED, Bag Valve Mask (BVM), and oxygen delivery equipment.
  • Bend, stoop, and roll casualties into the recovery position.
  • Apply slings, splints, tourniquets, and haemostatic dressings.
  • Perform back blows and chest thrusts to manage choking.
  • Lift, drag, or carry casualty mannequins (20–30kg) safely using manual handling techniques.
  • Participate in multiple casualty management and triage scenarios.
  • Inspect and maintain workplace first aid kits, oxygen equipment, and resuscitation gear.
  • Complete workplace first aid reviews, action plans, and casualty reports.

Key overall physical demands:

  • Very high stamina and strength – sustained CPR, BVM/oxygen resuscitation, casualty movement
  • Manual handling – mannequins (20–30kg), stretchers, oxygen cylinders, resus kits, first aid equipment
  • Mobility and agility – kneeling, bending, stooping, rolling casualties, handling multiple scenarios
  • Upper body strength and grip – CPR compressions, BVM, tourniquets, slings, casualty dragging
  • Dexterity – AED, OPA insertion, oxygen assembly, inhalers, EpiPen, bandaging
  • Tolerance – kneeling, PPE use, prolonged first aid scenarios under stress
  • Administrative tasks – workplace reviews, first aid kit checklists, first aid action plans
