Course Content

Emergency procedures for the skills required to rescue a victim from a switchboard / live LV panel encompassing:

  • Assess the incident scene
  • Placement and inspection of rescue equipment
  • Assessing and controlling hazards to rescuer, victim and others
  • Isolation procedures where appropriate
  • Maintaining Safe Approach Distances (SAD’s) appropriate to rescue from a live LV panel
  • Involvement of external emergency services as appropriate
  • Practical demonstration of rescuing a person
  • Removing victim / self to safe location / place of safety

Learning Outcomes

On successful completion of this program, students will be awarded the following Nationally Recognised Units of Competency:

  • UETDRMP018 Perform rescue from a live Low Voltage panel

Prerequisites and Entry Requirements

  • HLTAID009 Provide Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation;

Where the pre-requisite evidence in the form of a Statement or Attainment or USI Transcript is not provided, FSA will issue a Certificate of Attendance.

FSA Entry Requirements:

  • A verifiable USI
  • Enclosed footwear
  • Sufficient digital, language, literacy and numeracy skills to complete the course
  • Provision of evidence meeting the unit of competency pre-requisites, as listed above.

Physical Requirements:

This course requires a high level of physical strength, stamina, and dexterity, particularly for casualty rescue and CPR in a simulated electrical emergency.

To successfully complete this course, you will need to be physically able to:

  • Wear PPE including helmet, gloves, protective clothing, and insulated footwear.
  • Lift, carry, and use LV rescue kit equipment (gloves, crook, mat, torch).
  • Bend, stoop, and check isolation points on electrical panels.
  • Perform a simulated rescue, which involves dragging or carrying a casualty mannequin (20–30kg).
  • Provide CPR, including chest compressions and rescue breaths, while kneeling.
  • Complete hazard reports and incident documentation after the rescue

Key overall physical demands:

  • High physical demand during simulated rescue and casualty handling
  • Manual handling – mannequins (20–30kg) and rescue kit equipment
  • Upper body strength and stamina – required for CPR compressions and casualty drag/carry
  • Mobility and agility – bending, stooping, kneeling around LV panels and confined areas
  • Dexterity – donning PPE, handling insulated gloves, crook, and rescue gear
  • Tolerance – kneeling, heat stress from PPE, simulated high-risk environment
