Fire and Safety Australia offer both State and Commonwealth Health and Safety Representatives training courses.
Health and Safety Representatives (HSR) and Health and Safety Committees (HSC) represent the workers in important Work Health and Safety matters within the workplace.
HSR training courses help the nominated representatives to acquire the knowledge and skills to enable them to exercise their powers for the purpose of promoting and ensuring the health and safety at work of members of their work group.
Once elected a Health and Safety Representative the HSR in consultation with their employer has the right to choose the course of training they attend.
WHAT HSR TRAINING COURSE DO I NEED TO DO?
The type of Health and Safety Representative course you require depends on which legislation you are elected a HSR under.
Anyone elected a Health and Safety Representative under local legislation must complete their relevant state approved course. Whereas anyone elected a HSR under Commonwealth Jurisdiction must complete the Health and Safety Representatives (Comcare approved in the Commonwealth Jurisdiction) training course.
Companies on the current Comcare Licensees list (who are self-insurers) also must complete the Health and Safety Representatives (Comcare approved in the Commonwealth Jurisdiction) training course.
Further to this, any HSR in a government department and agency must complete the Health and Safety Representatives (Comcare approved in the Commonwealth Jurisdiction) training course.
Please Note: This does not apply to local government who instead must complete the state based course.
WHEN SHOULD I DO A HSR REFRESHER COURSE?
In order to attend a Health and Safety Representatives Refresher course you must have first completed the 5 day Initial training under the current Act.
An employee is entitled to refresher training every 12 months from their employer when the employee requests it.
Health and Safety Representatives Refresher training courses revitalise participant’s knowledge and skills of Work Health and Safety legislation and provide a refreshed knowledge of their role and functions as Health and Safety Representatives.
