ABOUT THE COURSE

This course equips participants with the essential skills required to safely rescue a victim from a cable pit, trench, or excavation. It covers critical safety procedures, hazard assessment, and the use of rescue equipment to ensure a successful rescue operation in high-risk environments.

Course Content

Emergency procedures for the skills required to rescue of a victim from a cable pit / trench / excavation encompassing:

  • Selection and Inspection of rescue equipment and PPE
  • Placement and inspection of rescue equipment
  • Assessing and controlling hazards to rescuer, victim and others
  • Isolation procedures where appropriate
  • Maintaining Safe Approach Distances (SAD’s) appropriate to rescue from a cable pit / trench / excavation.
  • Involvement of external emergency services as appropriate
  • Practical demonstration of rescuing a person
  • Removing victim / self to safe location / place of safety

Learning Outcomes

On successful completion of this program, participants will be awarded the following Nationally Recognised Units of Competency:

  • UETDREL006 Work safely in the vicinity of live electrical apparatus as a non-electrical worker
  • UETDRMP003 Perform cable pit / trench / excavation rescue

Prerequisites and Entry Requirements

Pre-requisites:

To be awarded the (current) Unit of Competency: UETDRMP003 Perform cable pit / trench / excavation rescue, the below pre-requisites must be provided:

  • UETDREL006 Work safely in the vicinity of live electrical apparatus as a non-electrical worker (included in this course, completed as pre-course ONLINE learning and assessment)

and

  • HLTAID009 Provide Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation

FSA Entry Requirements:

  • A verifiable USI
  • Fitness to participate declaration
  • Safety PPE and footwear
  • Sufficient digital, language, literacy and numeracy skills to complete the course
  • Completion of pre-course e-learning assessment for UETDREL006 Work safely in the vicinity of live electrical apparatus as a non-electrical worker

All pre-requisite unit requirements are met, with evidence of HLTAID009 being provided to FSA for verification with issuing RTO. This evidence must be in the form on a Statement of Attainment or USI Transcript.
