Tim Atkins

Fire and Safety Trainer - VIC

What inspired you to join FSA as a trainer?
Training is a profession that I have always felt passionate about as I enjoy teaching others new skills that will help them in their own profession. I have dabbled in training throughout my career but have never had the opportunity to pursue it as a career itself until now.

What do you love most about your role?
The ability to take students on a journey of knowledge and understanding and hopefully inspire them to work safely.

What is the most challenging aspect of your role?
The most challenging aspects of my role are the time management during training sessions and the diverse range of people that we train and their variety of different skill sets.

What is your proudest career achievement?
My proudest career achievement is to have been asked to represent the Royal Women’s Hospital at the ‘Safe and Secure Hospitals’ Conference in Brisbane 2017. My talk, ‘The Difference – Security & Emergency Response in a Women’s Hospital’ was presented to 100 of my peers in the healthcare industry.

Do you have any safety tips for the people?
“All injuries can be prevented” and “720o vision is condition of employment”

What do you wish you knew when you were younger?
Never reject a career or training opportunity that will challenge you both mentally and physically.
