Remote virtual classroom delivery for Health and Safety Representative Training Courses

Due to the unprecedented nature of the COVID19 pandemic, the Federal and most State Work Health and Safety Regulators have now moved to permit Health and Safety Representative (HSR) training to be complete remotely via video link in a virtual classroom. During the initial response to the COVID19 pandemic, the National Safety Council of Australia and Fire and Safety Australia, promptly lobbied regulators to ensure that this important health and safety training could be completed remotely, as previously it was only allowed to be conducted in person.

As of 20th April, the following regulators are allowing health and safety representative training to be conducted via virtual classroom (NOTE: Training providers have strict guidelines to follow to ensure that the high standards of training are still maintained):

• Comcare
• QLD – WorkSafe QLD
• NSW – SafeWork NSW
• SA – SafeWork SA
• VIC – WorkSafe Victoria

FSA Director Steve McLeod says that ‘the acceptance by most Australian Work Health and Safety Regulators, to allow organisations to have their staff complete HSR training using a virtual classroom environment during the COVID19 pandemic is a great initiative. This allows many organisations who had postponed face to face training, to ensure that they remain compliant, and that their personnel receive the appropriate accredited training through trusted and authorised training providers via a virtual classroom’.

The National Safety Council of Australia and Fire and Safety Australia are regularly conducting HSR training courses via virtual classroom. Visit www.nsca.org.au or www.fireandsafetyaustralia.com.au or call 1300 88 55 30 for training course dates and information.
